According to the Toronto Star, skilled trades are the Canadian jobs of the future. In 2010, experts say there was already a shortage of 50,000 workers in Canada — and this number is expect to rise sharply in the coming decades.

Apprenticeship Career Connections is suited for anyone who is interested in apprenticeships and careers in the skilled trades, including the following:

  • High school students and their parents
  • New graduates
  • New Canadians
  • Workers looking for mobility or career change
  • Laid off, unemployed and underemployed workers
  • Women looking for a career in the skilled trades
  • People with disabilities

Contrary to popular belief, many people in the trades earn above average salaries, says Skills Canada — plus they complete their training without the burden of massive student debt. In fact, the government offers grants of up to $4000 for completing an apprenticeship.
